Eating disorders are life threatening, biologically based illnesses that are estimated to affect up to 30 million men and women over their lifetime. Unfortunately, individuals living with these disorders are subject to wide-spread myths and misconceptions that minimize the seriousness and prevalence while maximizing the stigma and shame these individuals often carry with them every day. I want to confidently share with you that recovery from an eating disorder is possible!!
I have received specialized training in the treatment of eating disorders in The Renfrew Center, the Eating Concerns Treatment Team of two major South Florida university counseling centers, and in the Psychological Services Department of The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness. I have conducted eating disorder specific individual and group therapy, facilitated community eating disorder support groups, advocated on the local and national level, and completed core course training toward the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Certification.
There are many evidence based therapy options for the treatment of eating disorders as well as the commonly co-occurring mood, anxiety, trauma-related, and drug and alcohol conditions that often “travel with” eating disorders. After a thorough assessment with you, I will create an individualized treatment plan that will specifically address your needs and goals. I will also share my knowledge and experience to dispel myths and misperceptions around eating disorders so that you can start your journey towards recovery and learn new ways of coping with life’s challenges in a compassionate and non-judgmental atmosphere.
